Thermal Barrier Foams Rapidly Displace Conventional Insulation
EV battery thermal and acoustic foams are increasingly displacing conventional insulation materials as automakers seek documented fire-barrier certification alongside meaningfully improved cell-to-cell propagation resistance relative to legacy approaches. BASF and Covestro have both expanded thermal foam production capacity since 2023, targeting EV platforms that want validated burn-through data supporting battery pack safety across new vehicle programs. Smaller converters are adopting this technology more slowly, constrained by the certification investment required, but adoption is broadening steadily across major automotive markets worldwide as thermal foam pricing gradually declines with production scale today across nearly every regional manufacturing network overall.
